QuickBooks Desktop
Fixed asset software for QuickBooks Desktop, including Enterprise
Steda is a cloud fixed asset register that connects to QuickBooks Desktop through the Web Connector. It imports the register you already have, closes each month with locked periods and an audit trail, and posts the depreciation journal entry into the company file. The same register works with QuickBooks Online.

What QuickBooks Desktop shops are left with
Cloud fixed asset tools connect to QuickBooks Online, and their integration pages say so. QuickBooks Desktop, and Desktop Enterprise in particular, is left to Fixed Asset Manager, to a spreadsheet one person understands, or to re-keying the depreciation journal entry by hand every month.
Steda was built by a controller who ran month-end close on QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise for years. The register lives in the cloud, the journal entry lands in the company file, and if you move to QuickBooks Online later the register comes with you.
How it works with QuickBooks Desktop
01
Import the register you have
A CSV or Excel export from Fixed Asset Manager, a legacy system, or the workbook itself. Cost, in-service dates, methods, and accumulated depreciation come across as they are, staged and previewed row by row before anything is saved.
02
Close the month in Steda
Months close in order and lock. The audit trail is append-only, and the depreciation journal entry ties to the closed snapshot it came from.
03
Run the Web Connector
One Web Connector run posts the journal entry into the QuickBooks Desktop company file. The connection is pinned to that file, so a run never lands in the wrong books.
The connection
What the Desktop connection does
Works with Enterprise
Connects to QuickBooks Desktop, including Enterprise, through the Web Connector, the same connection Intuit ships for exactly this purpose.
Journal entries into the company file
The depreciation journal entry posts directly into the company file, from the same register that posts to QuickBooks Online.
A guard against the wrong file
Connections are pinned to the company file and checked before posting. A run never lands in the wrong file.
Works without a connector
Download the journal entry as a file and import it yourself. Every data flow works with the connector off.
Replacing Fixed Asset Manager
Import the Fixed Asset Manager export
Fixed asset software gets postponed because of the re-keying. Steda imports the Fixed Asset Manager export instead: upload the file, map the columns once, review every staged row, and the register is live.
From that point the register is the system of record. Errors surface per row before anything is saved, and the same tool handles a bulk import into QuickBooks later. Details on the import tool.
What the register handles
- Straight-line, declining balance at 150 and 200 percent, sum-of-years-digits, and units of production for book.
- MACRS with mid-quarter convention, Section 179, and bonus depreciation for tax, with separate methods and lives per book.
- Construction in progress, transfers, impairments, and full or partial disposals with gain or loss.
- Net book value rollforward, depreciation projections, additions and disposals, and tax reports, all exportable to Excel and CSV.
The full list, with period close and multi-book, is on the fixed asset register page.
Questions
Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise?
Yes. Steda connects to QuickBooks Desktop, including Enterprise, through the Web Connector, and posts the depreciation journal entry into the company file with one Web Connector run.
Can it replace Fixed Asset Manager?
Steda imports the register from a CSV or Excel export of Fixed Asset Manager, or from any spreadsheet. Cost, dates, methods, and accumulated depreciation come across as they are, and from then on the register lives in Steda: methods for book and tax, period close, audit trail, reports, and the journal entry posted back to Desktop.
How does it avoid posting to the wrong company file?
Each connection is pinned to one company file and checked before posting. A run that does not match the pinned file does not post. A second file is a second entity in Steda, with its own register and its own connection.
How long does the import take?
Send it to us before the walkthrough and we will have it loaded and reviewed by the time we talk, so the call is spent on your own register rather than on watching a file load. A register with years of drift, or several books to reconcile, takes longer, and that is what the implementation service covers.
What if we move to QuickBooks Online later?
The register lives in Steda, not in QuickBooks, so it survives the move. Disconnect Desktop, connect Online, keep closing months. Both connectors are included at every price.
What if we do not want a connector at all?
Download the journal entry as a file and import it into QuickBooks yourself. Every data flow in Steda works with the connectors off.
