Steda

The register

Fixed asset register software with depreciation for QuickBooks Online and Desktop

Steda replaces the depreciation spreadsheet. It runs book and tax depreciation on the same asset, closes and locks each month, and posts the journal entry to QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop.

Depreciation methods, book and tax

The register computes depreciation for book and for tax on the same asset, side by side, with separate methods and lives per book. Book methods cover the common conventions; the tax book handles MACRS with the mid-quarter convention, Section 179 expensing, and bonus depreciation.

Every schedule exports to Excel and CSV, so a reviewer can tie a period's charge back to cost, method, life, and in-service date without asking anyone.

Period close

A closed month stays closed

Months close in order and lock. A locked month cannot be edited, only reopened deliberately, with the reopen itself on the audit trail. The depreciation journal entry ties to the closed snapshot, so the schedule the entry came from is the schedule the system still shows months later.

In a spreadsheet, that guarantee depends on nobody touching a cell. Here it is enforced by the database, and the audit trail is append-only.

From purchase to disposal

Acquisition and construction in progress

Capture assets at cost, or accumulate spend in construction in progress and place in service when the project completes. Depreciation starts from the in-service date, not the invoice date.

Multi-book

Book and tax depreciation side by side on every asset, with separate methods and lives per book.

Transfers, impairments, disposals

Transfers, impairments, and disposals, including partial disposals with gain or loss computed against net book value at the disposal date. Every event lands on the audit trail.

Reporting

Net book value rollforward, depreciation projections, additions and disposals, and tax reports.

Excel everywhere

Every register, schedule, and report exports to Excel and CSV, including after a subscription lapses.

Multi-entity

A separate register for each set of books, one sign-in across all of them.

QuickBooks

Posts to QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop

The journal entry posts to QuickBooks Online with one click, or to QuickBooks Desktop, including Enterprise, with one Web Connector run. Both connectors are included at every price.

Connections are pinned to the company file, so a run never lands in the wrong books. It also works without a connector: download the journal entry as a file and import it yourself.

The register lives in Steda, not in QuickBooks, so a move from Desktop to Online later does not disturb it. More on the Desktop page.

Onboarding

Import the register you already have

Upload a CSV or Excel file, from Fixed Asset Manager, a legacy system, or the workbook itself. Map the columns once, review every staged row, and the register is live. Cost, dates, methods, and accumulated depreciation come across as they are; nothing is re-keyed. Send yours ahead and we will have it loaded before the walkthrough. A register with years of drift takes real work, and that is what the implementation service covers.

The same staged, row-by-row tool is the QuickBooks import tool, included with every subscription.

Questions

Which depreciation methods does the register support?

Straight-line, declining balance at 150 and 200 percent, sum-of-years-digits, and units of production for book. MACRS with mid-quarter convention, Section 179, and bonus depreciation for tax. Each book on an asset has its own method and life.

Does it work with QuickBooks Online?

Yes. The depreciation journal entry posts to QuickBooks Online with one click. The same register posts to QuickBooks Desktop, including Enterprise, through the Web Connector, and both connectors are included at every price.

What does period close actually lock?

Months close in order. A closed month cannot be edited, only reopened deliberately, and the reopen itself is on the audit trail. The journal entry ties to the closed snapshot, so what you filed is what the system still shows.

How is this different from the depreciation spreadsheet?

The spreadsheet has no locked periods, no audit trail, and no link between a filed number and the schedule that produced it. In Steda a closed month is locked in the database, and every change is on the audit trail.

Can I get my data out?

Every register, schedule, and report exports to Excel and CSV, always, including after a subscription lapses.

What does it cost?

A first entity rate, an additional-entity rate, and a one-time implementation fee quoted from your own register before you sign. Unlimited users at every level, both connectors included. Every figure, including the published rate above 1,000 assets, is on the pricing page.
